Inspiration for our Alewa pattern is the Alewa Heights neighborhood in Honolulu. The neighborhood snakes up a sharp vertical incline overlooking the Nu'uanu Valley and boasts one of the steepest drives in the city. "Alewa" means suspended in Hawaiian. We thought that was a beautiful name. The neighborhood is dense with small houses built ingeniously on almost vertical plots. Our pattern tries to capture that urban tropics feel: one of our favorite combinations.
